Carved Stone flowers pendant, Soapstone?

The largest one ia about the size of a quarter. These look hand made and have the name Helen 1914 carved into the back of the larger one.
They are not plastic, but some kind of stone material.
Any help would be appreciated.
I had at one time posted these on ebay jewelry board.

Are they some kind of clay or pottery ?

 

They could be, But the texture of the surface is more like stone not clay.

 

I have some African trade beads that are made out of bauxite that look similar to these in color. I wonder if they could be bauxite?

 

Well, probably scratch that as bauxite must not be too easy to carve - I can't find anything bauxite that is beyond a simple round bead.

 

A clay surface can be given a texture that looks like stone, so the texture wouldn't rule out clay.

The way the incised letters and numbers look makes me think they're made of clay, too.

On the back where the screw is coming out of the second flower. Can you take a magnifying glass and get a better look at the material?

Do the flowers feel heavy and dense?
Put the flowers to your face, stone will be cold. Pottery a little warmer.

1914 would be the right time period for that sawdust resin they used to make animal figurines, bookends, etc.

Wonder if the material was available to artists.
The flowers are too nicely done to be the normal hobbiest.
