This heavily carved wood chest is 8" x 6". I initially thought Mexican but it is made of some kind of lightweight wood that looks like a type of mahogany (white speckles are paint). Would expect pine if Mexican. Any idea on origin? Thoughts on age? I was thinking 50s but could see how it might be a bit older or newer.

    It's a nice jewelry box....
    I'm seeing a mix of styles.....and what I think is a cross over between Deco & Nouveau.......but that's all i got......:(

My guess is that it was made in Italy.

Interesting. Was thinking more South America somewhere. Could see Spain. Have not found another quite like it. Idea about age?

Realized that the pics really don't show the carving that well. New pic..... note the pineapple motif and is that a banana palm frond in among the acanthus leaves? Possibly Caribbean in origin?

I can't see Spain but can see South America (and I'm basing that on the exuberance of the carving.)
