I think they're bears. I couldn't find a mark and could find nothing similar by Googling.
The bears are individually carved. They have burned in details. I'm thinking Germany because of the walking stick but them I see the pitcher and I think "That doesn't look like a German pitcher". Then I think, "This is ridiculous, I'm just going to post it."
    What do you think?

Funny, the moment I saw this I thought Brazil - one of the German areas..........and I have no idea why. I don't recall ever seeing one there, but...............

I was thinking more Georgia or South Carolina; they look like they're drinking moonshine.

I'd vote for Intuit or Alaskan area, they have that stretched out totem feel.

    Hi LibraryLady,
In the beginning I thought like you do, but they have no tails so bears they are.

    EXACTLY, LibraryLady & Greg!

(I thought CATS, for sure... maybe even MANX cats, but I suppose BEARS are more likely!)

From the back they look like they're wearing puffy snow pants.

My first thought was from that region also like the Smoky Mountains of east TN or NC - moonshiners; however, the details look more Mexican or South American to me. Carving just doesn't look detailed, fine enough, for Black Forest work.

Edit: Smokey Mts. black bears would be portrayed drinking from jugs rather than from mugs.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This is very cute. I also think they are bears, although they don't really look like them. I can't think of any other similar animal that doesn't have a tail.

And if it were "Smokey Mountains" black bears at least one would be prone on the floor (and he'd be the "designated driver" through the "hoots and hollows" of those mountains). "And there was thunder, thunder over Thunder Road . . . ."
