Don't know how long this was in my family or where it was obtained. It's 19" tall and a smooth, dark wood. I found pictures of figures from the Dogon Tribe in Tintam, Mali that have the raised arms and single fist. But can't find anything with this egg shaped head and bulging eyes or similar loincloth and necklace (is there a word for that?). Can anyone help me identify him? And again give me a general guess about value.
    Thanks in advance! IMG_6784.JPG IMG_6787.JPG IMG_6788.JPG IMG_6789.JPG IMG_6790.JPG IMG_6793.JPG IMG_6792.JPG

I couldn't even guess at where it comes from.....but it's newer....and most likely a tourist item...

I've never seen anything quite like this carving before, so I cannot place it. We don't ordinarily discuss values in this forum, as the worth of a piece is beauty in the eyes of the beholder, and value is also location dependent. I like him and I think he's very cool! ;)

To my eye, the wood looks South American. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't.

Thank goodness there’s always someone around to follow through! This is one of the rare times an image search helped.

    Still seems somewhat mass produced.

He appears to have found a theme that was popular, and made more. There are at least 4 - @MIRED 's version, with triangles carved on the base and no signature; the one shown on etsy, with triangles on the base and a signature; the one shown on https://www.oneofakindantiques.com/, which is the same one shown on the liveauctioneers page, with a rough hewn base and a signature; and another I found doing a google image search for "Katumo Kenya carving":

When I click on this one, though, it takes me to a completed auction (on liveauctioneers) that includes only 2 of the sculptures and not the "rain god". So I don't know where he actually is. A further search on liveauctioneers for Katumo did not turn him up.

Can't thank you guys enough!!! I searched high and low with no luck myself. Looked close at that mark and don't think it's anything intentional. Interesting how the exact same raised arms asking for rain are in figures from Mali and Kenya.
