Cast Aluminum?

This piece appears to be cast aluminum. The "1920" date on it makes me think it would have been cast in that year. I picked it up from a gentleman whose grandfather worked at Columbus Foundry in Columbus, GA.

A trivet? Wall plaque? As seen in the pictures, it's missing the two letter S's in 'God Bless Our Home". In the center it appears to be an anchor with small letters that could be a C and an L inside of a smaller horseshoe. Then lettering on the outside of the larger horseshoe.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Welcome, G2! You are going to need to embed the rest of your pictures from the Gallery by using the Camera icon in the Reply box toolbar. I'm not sure what you did that made all of your text underlined, but I think it has something to do with the way you attached that picture.

I would think trivet. If you hung it on a wall, all of the good luck would spill out of the horseshoe ;).

Cast iron maybe? Does a magnet stick to it?

Really does not resemble aluminum to me. Did the Columbus Foundry only deal in aluminum?

No, a magnet does not stick to it. The discoloration probably doesn't help in identifying.

I do not know, doubtful. A set of Bulldog bookends were also in the box, they were marked Columbus foundry. I no longer have them and they we not cast aluminum. Maybe this piece wasn't made there, no markings. Thanks everyone for your input.

If cast iron a magnet should stick so perhaps you're right.
