Cast Bronze Beads Tightly Bound in Wool Braid; Money?

There are ~85 total, 14 of them are the 'floral' separators usually delimiting groups of 10. The complete string weighs ~158 grams; it is ~24" long, with ~7' of that as tails. The majority of these beads have small (~3/16") central holes; the scalloped ones have central holes of various diameters, from ~1/4" up to ~3/8". There has been some repaired damage to the braid (TDC pic 1), an' probably a few beads have been lost there.

There is subtle evidence that this string is old; the places where there is opportunity to see between the beads shows wear that strongly suggests long handling an' movement between these closely packed beads. To determine how old this hank of brass an' wool is would be a real thrill, I think.

I don't see this as 'jewelry' in any ordinary sense, but money looks funny in many places...perhaps these are 'coins' of a sort; a store of minor wealth. An' it may well be a recognizable form of adornment; Jewelry after all! Perhaps one of the Mods will move this thread to that forum, if it would be more appropriate? Thanks for lookin'!

Ethnic jewellery imo, but I don't know where from.
Braided wool is often seen on Berber necklaces. Other textile cords are seen on Indian and Pakistani necklaces.
Bronze is often used in West Africa.
Given the condition of the wool I would guess it is mid-20th century.

If Berber, then goat or camel wool probably.
    Thanks, AJ...I'm grateful!

Or sheep.;) There are several breeds of sheep native to Morocco, could be the same in the other Berber countries.
