I can see it is letters, but that is all. Can you make out anything that makes sense? It measures about 8 inches long. I know it is just painted green, as it looks to be cast iron not bronze.

I'd try with a magnet to see if it's definitely iron or not

With the smaller ears it looks like a male Asian elephant.

It is beautiful. Looks like bronze or brass rather than iron?
I agree it looks like an Asian elephant, but a name beginning with Oua... sounds West African to me, like Ouadane and Ouagadougou, etc.

Hi Charlie, I think bone, but not ivory. I can tell you more on that later.

    Looks like "Camp"...maybe Nine?
Could it be "Quad.." something and then it looks like Edo which is now Tokyo

Next to the 2, on this lovely elephant's belly, is that more writing?

I read it as "Cuadropedo" - Spanish for quadruped. But why it appears to say "Camel.." above that is beyond me. Perhaps some instructions for the casting/mounting process?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

To me the beginning looks like "Campine" with the last two letters squeezed in below. Just as "Cuadropedo" appears. There are several definitions for Campine or campine online... None make any sense for this piece.
