The splashware made me think it was of middle eastern origin. Came with a pestle and was sold as a mortar but surely this is not the case. The pestle is of a material I am unsure of, marble maybe?

The ceramic object measures some 20cm in diametre and has those two small dots on the side which I am guessing is the maker's mark? Some modern trinket for the tourist market?
