chinese bat bowl w/ Qianlong seal mark, does this mark look odd to you?

    I mean the way there is no outline and its sort of cut out of the tourquoise enamel or whatever. Or is that a standard sort of technique? These sold at an auction a couple weeks ago.

    I've seen that before, it tends to be attributed to the late 19th/early 20th century

    meaning you've seen that sort of square cut out portion of the glazing?

    With the cut out glaze, yes. Seen them in yellow glazed bases too.

    It seems to me that most Chinese ceramic items with that turquoise colour that I've seen are dating to the turn of the 20th c., maybe first third of 20thc. Now that doesn't much except maybe that was the period when wares like that were exported.
