Chinese Batik Paintings

    Picked up one and left three at the TS because I am not sure that they are more than average decorative pieces. What do you think?

    Era looks mid 1950s more Decorative in my opinion. Got great color though! Need to see the back of painting to give more accurate age

    Seeing the other three, I think you made the right choice from among them. But I'm curious why you are calling this "batik?"

    They are backed with wooden panels. Batik, as I think they are dyed cloth rather than painted. But I could be wrong.
    Wonder if there is a symbolic meaning on the one with the flower and that ... whatever it is.

    Well the cloth used seems more coarsely woven than the usual "silk," but "batik" is a wax resist dying process that does not seem amenable to a multi-colored "picture" (as opposed to the geometric patterns usually seen.)
