I came across this bowl at a church basement sale for $3. It is missing one of the stones on the lid. The stamp is "china" which seems like it must be relatively new. So I wonder, how old is it? What is it made of? Are the stones synthetic mat'l or natural stone? Is it worth more than $3?

I think it was a nice buy at $3. For future reference, show a photo of the mark, include rough dimensions, and last but not least, if you click on "Full Image" after uploading, your photos will appear in a nice large view, right in the text.

I don't think this is brand new.

It is late 20th/early 21st c. Mass production. Appliqué type decoration that looks soldered on at ends of the appliqué pieces. It is dented in on one side. It isn't collectible. I'm guessing it is worth what u paid for it.

Didn't notice the dent, which definitely impacts value. I was guessing it was more like 1940's-60's. It seems like they aren't stamping the word "China" on things from the last 20 years, but could be wrong. Not suggesting this is super old or super valuable, but not too bad at $3.

I'm with Lucille.b here, have seen these Chinese pewter pieces with the stone sets for most of my life, in various shapes and forms - they're often described as mid 19th-early 20th century, but personally, would suspect more like 1920s-40s. Even with the damage, believe it's worth more than you paid...

    Somewhat similar pieces:
