Chinese brass lidded jar. Mysterious relief on the bottom ...

    This Chinese brass lidded jar is believed to be from the early 20th century. 17.5 cm high. What puzzles me is the mysterious relief on the bottom. As far as I can see it contains no Chinese signs. So what does it show ? Maybe you can identify it ?

    Looks like it might depict a goat, one of the signs in the Chinese zodiac.

    I think the arc along the top may be the backswept horns of a typical Chinese goat -

    it's hard for me to see it now.......laying on the floor , with these sharp spasms.....

    Hang on - I'm confused (not unheard of). I was interpreting the (more) legible image that komo posted, thinking it was the OP's item. I now realize that it is not.

    Now that I am reoriented, I think komo may be right about it being from India. The thing on the bottom looks like some sort of crest, with a panther on the left.
