Featured Chinese Carved Figure, Bone Or Ivory?

    It's either ivory, or some sort of resin. I don't think it's bone.

    The detailing looks very resin-like to me, and the dark areas look to be applied rather than age-related....but it is not always easy to tell from photos.

    I'll get better photos when I have the chance. I have not found any burst bubbles which are almost sure to be seen on resin pieces.
    Hot needle should tell for sure I guess?

    Hi,
    NO HOT NEEDLE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel faint and going to fall on the floor.

    C'mon, if it's resin I don't care if it will leave a burn mark. If ivory, I don't think it will make a signigicant damage. What's the big deal?

    Still in doubt what it the material.

    I'm pretty sure it's some sort of resin or other material.

    Ivory would be much 'cleaner', off-white creamy colour, and yes, ivory can (doesn't always, but can) crack over time.

    Right, it's resin. (could also probably be bone powder.)
    Always easy to tell from the bottom
