Just received this sweet little piece, with its original pale celadon porcelain liner (under $12.00, including shipping). I'm so bad on Asian characters, can't even tell the proper orientation for the marks...

    That is so sweet, Cheryl.
    Fantastic.
About the mark, the first one looks the right way up. @Asian Fever just posted a gorgeous piece, Asian, could you help with the mark?

Hahaha, Chinese domestic silver piece.(Normally over 925 standard, domestic silver is always higher standard than export silver.) Jiujiang province, By Tumaoxing silversmith, a remarkable silversmith in late Qing Dynasty (Before 1911).

    How charming!!! Nice buy, Cheryl:)
A simple trick for the right orientation of Chinese/Japanese characters is to imagine they are little persons... the "legs" are downside or they couldn't walk:)

Thank you! Sorry, for someone who likes measurements given, neglected to say it's under 2" (5cm) tall, including knob and 1.75" (4.5cm) wide...

Wow - so sugar bowls are very tiny in China (full to the rim, holds 1 Tablespoon/13 grams of sugar)? Why so small?

A mustard pot of similar size and form, shown with its matching open salt and pepperette:

Lol, that makes sense. Yes probably for salt. The one on the right looks so similar as yours

Have to believe this is a mustard pot, most likely originally part of a condiment set like the one above, and intended for the Western market. Thank you again for the maker ID, find Tu Mau Xing referenced as operating circa 1880-1930...

Very pretty! I'm still trying to snag anything asian/chinese export and put it into my collection.
