    Hello
I got this pretty thing today and would like to know if it is Chinese? And
    Possible age?
    I believe a menu holder.

    Many thanks in advance

Hello @Chic223 & welcome to the forum!!:happy:

I can't help you with any information but I feel quite certain someone will be along soon. We are an international forum so folks come along at all times of the day & night.:happy::happy:

Measurements of the piece might help with the ID of the use of the piece.

Also, if you could go back & choose full image on your photos it would be great.

Some members are hesitant to click on attachments from unknown members.

I also want to tag a member who I know will just love seeing this piece just as eye candy. ;):):)

Thanks for your reply. I have managed to do this :)

I got it from an antique fair today. I collect perfume bottles mostly but a dealer I know had this and it caught my eye. He was so kind enough to give me a great price for it too.
I thought it would look nice amongst my perfume collection.

The mark looks like an interlocking 'CS' logo, typical Victorian/Edwardian trademark.Any silver marks or is it plated ?
PS-Could also of course be 'SC'.

    that's a makers mark......not a hallmark !

    they are often confused..

it looks like silver , but without a silver mark on it , the finesse is unknown..

If you have a magnifying glass or loupe look on the front of the rib on the far right at the top. It might be a smudge of tarnish or there could be a mark. Some makers put their marks on the front of things. It could even be hiding in among the design on the front.

BTW what kind of perfume bottles do you collect?

    I have a "few" myself. ;):rolleyes::rolleyes::bag::bag::bag: :hilarious:

I did think that could be something too but on further inspection it appears to be silver used to join the two.

It might even be American, the Chinese not being likely to put opium poppies in decoration. At least I don't think they did. The motifs were a hot decoration in the West in the 1870s/1880s, so it could have been made here. Westerners felt free to mix/match and add things an Asian designer wouldn't have done.

Had a good look and I’m unable to see anything unfortunately.
May just remain a mystery…but a very lovely one!

Oh fantastic. Which do you like to collect?

I mostly collect English silver perfume bottles. I have some French and Italian but tend to stick to English ones by known silver makers.
I have a range of coloured cut glass bottles and shapes with silver lids also. Much loved collection built up over the years.

You've hit the right person with our resident perfume bottle collector then. I'm just a generalist magpie. If it screams "buy me" I buy it.

Thanks for your reply it’s appreciated.
That’s very interesting you point that out, with the mix of birds & different flowers on the front.

Sometimes I wish I was more of a magpie, I feel I zone in on only what I collect and probably miss out on others amazing things.

My collection is mostly bottles that were sold by DeVilbiss. It sounds like you may live across the pond so I don't know if you are familiar with the company. They were originally headquartered in Toledo, Ohio (which happens to be my hometown) & they produced only the hardware for the bottles. The bottles were purchased from glass makers all over the world. They sold perfume bottles from 1905 till the mid-1960s.

I also have some of the cut crystal Czechoslovakian bottles as well as the Czech filigree bottles.
