2 1/4" high by 5 1/2" across and hopefully a Chinese antique (looks older ?). It seems to be a little knick-knack box. One source says sometimes Buddhist scrolls would've been stored in it (must've been very small ones !).
Any idea as to true age, actual purpose and poss where made would be great-Thanks !

Plus it is a strange shape to store scolls in.
I think it is more likely a container that held a set of sweetmeat dishes. You know those sets with one dish in the middle and eight fan-shaped dishes like petals around it.
    Maybe a wedding gift.:)

I think you nailed-it's missing it's spice compartments. It's a very humble piece compared to much of the classier painted and carved pieces.
I guess trying to date these is challenging ?
PS-I was happy to find anything w/ some age that wasn't marked 'Made In China'.

    My guesstimate is 1910-20.
