    Hi Folks

    for showsies really

picked this up in an antiques shop while i was in town yesterday. was in a spending mood so not a bargain, might only be worth what i paid (£30)

but do love these older mudmen types, and liked the fact she was a mudlady, also like the turquoise glaze on her

presumably less common than the man types

    any thoughts of info appreciated

So sweet and I also love the turquoise glaze. And she has a fan!!!!:woot::woot:
Chinese feather fans were used in summer, so she is a summery girl.:)

Now you have to be on the lookout for her three friends, if she represents Summer!

I am not sure she represents summer, I think she just happens to be depicted in summer attire.
Fan-wise there are only two seasons, summer and winter.

I found a Japanese kimono in a charity thrift last week, it was in nail-the-coffin-you're-dead colors alas, but never seen a Chinese robe here. Darnit. I'd wear hers if it showed up.

It’s a good example. I think £30 was a good buy. She won’t be worth a fortune but she’s old and , in my opinion, worth at least double what you paid.

I’ve only had one lady. They are definitely quite a bit more rare than men. I listed mine in auction format. I don’t recall what I got but I know I was hoping for a good bit more. If you sell it I would do fixed price. They sell pretty regularly for $100+ at fixed price if I recall. I think I got like 30-40 probably for the auction listing. It was a good deal more than I paid but not what I wanted. Mudmen are one of the only old Chinese things you can find somewhat regularly. Actually I haven’t found one in a long time but I used to find them pretty often. I had a little collection on my kitchen windowsill above the sink for years but I think I sold them all. My favorite was a fishermen with a large (almost as tall as him) vase/urn beside him. It unfortunately didn’t hold water but I liked the added touch.
