image.jpg I thought these were pretty cool too. They seem to be paper mâché. I can see broken pieces of plaster inside. I don't know how old they are.

    Not dragons.
    Foo Dogs.

    How tall are they?
And yes they are rather cool.
Sorry can't help with how old or new.

Hi you have two MALE foos. The matching female foo has a puppy under her front paw. Perhaps it is the other way. I do coffee and then comment.

Can't believe I called them dragons. Yes, Foo Dogs. There about 8 to 9 inches tall.

Now that you say that, I think I remember reading about that. I keep these at the base of my fireplace during the warm months. During winter, I store them in my garage.

    Hi,
Sorry to come back so late. Females have a "puppy" under foot. They are called foo dogs but they are really depictions of lions so a cub under foot.

I would just like to add...

These are not Chinese, they're Japanese.

Also, are you sure the material is paper mache?

I ask because these appear to be a pair of ceramic Kutani Shishi to my eye.

I'll be honest, you just spoke Japanese to me. I have no clue. How can I tell?

I can also see inside one of the balls, where it looks like, whoever did this, put some of the hair from the brush that they were using, inside of it. I first thought that something was dead inside it but realized that it was red paint, not blood.

The broken pieces I'm talking about, that are inside the figures, what could it be? I called it plaster but it may be something else. Overall, these pieces are in excellent condition.

I have always told her I knew I was going to marry a red head. Ya, when I first seen my wife, way back in highschool, I knew she was the one. Today is our 15th anniversary. Been together for 18.

I took a damp cloth and wiped the dust and webs off these and placed them in my china cabinet. Whew, thank goodness my dogs didn't decide to chew of them before.
