Chinese porcelain figural incense holders - melon heads - something or nothing?

Chinese incense holders (or bud vases). Something or nothing? There is a right hand and a left hand piece. They look strange to me. Each has a melon-shaped head, oddly flat on top, shaved bare except for a center tuft in green and a molded bar-like bit to either side. The decoration on these is rudimentary – hastily painted flowers that are blobs of cobalt blue surrounded by dots of green. The overall glaze has occasional flaws from the kiln and a pale green tint to it. Each was made of porcelain in a mold and seems to be hollow. Each figurine stands about 4 ½” tall and measures about 2 ½” side-to-side, 2” front to back. The opening for incense or flower is at the bottom of each cup and very narrow: about ¼” across. Anyone know anything about them? Old/new? Etc?

Hmmm. This looks like an interesting project. Don't give up.

I think you're on to something there, so something learned at any rate. I'll add that info to the description.

I'm going to ask about these again, to see if new faces have anything to add.
