Chinese Sculpture - Age and Material?

    Hello, could you please help me identify the material and age of this sculpture? I believe it is soapstone or possibly marble.

    Size: 8” tall

    Wow that piece of stone looks remarkably like wood! I’ve seen stone similar on these carvings but this one had me tricked when I casually looked. I like these when they have monkeys and this is a nice little one. I bet it would do better than many of them do.
