    Hi,
This is a small bowl, about 3.75 inches across not including the handles. The mark on the underside is WN with a Chinese character. From what I have seen on-line I believe this is the mark of Wing Nam Co. I am not knowledgeable in this area so am asking if anyone can confirm this for me. Also, is this for any particular purpose, or just a small bowl.
    Thanks for any help.

I was thinking quaiche, or however it's spelled. It's the first time I've ever seen something that looks like a Scottish drinking cup made in China. That's one story I'd love to hear - how this got made, for whom and how it landed wherever it was found. This may have been a wedding gift.

It's a quaiche, made in China during the export era. Quite pretty, actually.

Yes, a quaich (I only know the Scottish spelling, without an e). and it is gorgeous Chinese export silver. The mark is for Wing Nam, imo.

Quaichs are usually for special occasions, so it could be a wedding gift, like evelyb said. Dainty, so just symbolic, but I would be very happy with such a wedding gift.:)

Thank you everyone for the great info. Much appreciated. This was rescued from a table full of junk in the garage at an estate sale.

I'm glad it was, and you will be glad too when you see the values of ca 1890-1900 Chinese export silver.;)

Score. Score. Score! I'm betting the regular dealers went right past it! I'm betting Scots would pay real money for it.

This was unusual because the company running this sale is quite good and would not normally have missed this. Probably missed because the mark is not obvious. I went to this sale a couple hours after opening, so it shows you can still find stuff even if you're not first in the door.

Scots want Scottish silver, preferably provincial. Collectors of Chinese export silver on the other hand.....
It could do well in the Netherlands as well, the combination of a 'brandewijnkom' (brandy bowl) and Chinese antique. The quaich is based on Medieval northern German and Dutch brandy bowls.

    Dutch-Frisian brandewijnkom:

That Dutch brandy bowl is adorable! I've been lucky enough to see quite a bit of Dutch silver over the years. I've never found a piece I didn't like. They had amazing artistry!
