Featured Chinese Soapstone? Monkeys

    Hi All,
    I wasn't sure where to put this, but you folks are very smart, you know carving, stones etc so I'll put it here.
    Small (2" x 1" x 1 1/2"H) carving, China scratched on the base. This is very dusty/dirty.
    Is this soapstone? Do you think it has some age?
    any information appreciated

    Awwww - could be from anywhere!

    Mom had one of these soapstone guys - she got them along with perfume from France, a silk scarf from India and a small ebony elephant with tusks, probably also from from India. Even one of these Gravern Norsk bowls, which I still have :)

    Any of it would be 70 years old...

    thanks INH:) yes, that piece looks similar. I think the price is a 'tad' high on that one:)
    maybe mine was in a very dusty house and not old at all, lol.

    Nice piece. I didn't know there's reddish soapstone... I always think of it as having a greenish tone. Learned something new today!

    Maybe souvenirs of Chinatown. Not high quality carving.

    Sort of a Hear no Evil, See no Evil, as only one ear and eye are covered.

    Haha.....not quite the 'traditional' "monkey no hear-do-see" is it!!! Can they have a soft toothbrush bath??
