Can someone help me figuring out what I have? I think this is a Chinese made toothpick holder. There is a nice dragon on it and it says "IMPORT" under it. Is this a valuable antique or just a 25 cent piece of crap? The picture I took is too big so this little image links to an external imagehost: [IMG]

It's likely just a miniature vase. The decorative technique is called moriage and the style, for obvious reasons, is Dragonware. If the only mark is "import" then it was probably made shortly after WWII, while Japan was still not the flavor of the month. It's an attractive piece.

Mini vase. My mother had a whole collection of them including tiny wooden stands.

THANK YOU! I just had a look at ebay and found several mini vases similar to mine. I guess I will list my vase on ebay too since I don't know what to do with it. Right now it is just an object I move around when it is my way.

The mark "Occupied Japan" or "made in Occupied Japan" was required on 50% of exports from 1945 until 1952. You will find it printed on glass, ceramics, etc. Often on tags for cloth and similar.
