Chinese wood Base/stand age? type of wood?

    I usually pick these up when I see them because you never know when you might need one. this one looks to have some age to it though. Or maybe just abuse. It is 5 1/2" diameter.

    Does look a little older but still not great quality. Not sure of the wood on these. The good old ones are usually mahogany or rosewood and the carving quality is much better. Here is a nice example of what to look for. Said to be from the 30s.

    Older ones can get much more intricate.
