Need some help on this tapestry I came across, it measures 56"W x 73"H and is silk or wool and not synthetic. Hopefully somebody can point me in the right direction as to identifying it it would be greatly appreciated.
Portuguese, obviously, and I'd think -- from the subject and frame -- done toward the end of the Salazar dictatorship (1932-1968). Wool. Debora
That pretty much hit the nail on the head, tapestry made after the black and white picture of of João Esmeraldo's house, known as "Casa de Columbus" taken by João Francisco Camacho a famous photographer. I guess it looks better with color, hence th tapestry. Thx all around.
Tapestry panel. It would have been produced for a purpose. Perhaps as an anniversary of one of the dates. Wonder if it was made in Arraiolos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arraiolos_rug Debora
I'd think it a bit of a leap to date your piece pre-1876. Let's start at the beginning. Where did you get it? And what were you told about it? Debora
