Please excuse my odd terms in this post...I know absolutely nothing about these critters. I found this cigar mold in my mom's basement. The pieces don't seem to fit together properly. The peg on the end seems well suited to the hole on the opposite side, but I can't get them to nest any closer than in the photos. They also are not the same length, though the individual molds seem to line up well when the end peg is placed in the opposite hole. So I'm thinking I either need to let the wood dry a bit, having been stored in the basement, which can get humid, or I have the pieces to two different molds. One piece is labeled Peters Mfg USA. The other has 2 stamps: 1 Durex 27 51400, and Xmark 24 1914. What do you think?

Seems like a Durex - Peters Mfg cigar mold marriage that was "pinned together to line up by someone. And from being in the basement that usually harbors high humidity the pieces swelled up causing the bad fit. You can try drying them out to see if they will shrink back to original but I'm thinking if you want them to match up again you will have to get some sand paper and "FIT" them back again!

Another thought - pound out the pin (as long as it isn't glued) and see if then the 2 halves can be fitted together - if that works then just re-pin the molds.

Thanks, Rayo56! I wasn't sure whether one company made the molds and the other made the cigars, or what. I'll see if I can get the wood to shrink by leaving them in the air conditioning, then I guess I'll try to sell them as unmatched "shabby-chic" decor. :)

If you plan on selling them, I'd say do nothing. Let the buyer do what they want. Once you start sanding, scraping, refinishing, you reduce the value of the item.

Thanks, Bev! I'm going to leave them as-is, except to see if they'll dry out and fit better. But even though the two parts are from different molds, I guess I'll try to sell them together. They're still a pretty cool decoration; and maybe there's someone out there who collects the molds and has odd matches for these particular parts. :)
