Featured Cinnabar lacquer on bronze plate - how old?

Found this guy yesterday and spent what for me was a little more than usual but really not that much. Fairly sure this is real cinnabar lacquer over bronze. I think - from looking at gotheborg and such that the mark is Qianlong - or meant to look like it. I could be getting it wrong.

The back has some damage to the cinnabar but the front is in pretty good shape. Overall the carving is pretty good - but not extremely detailed. How old might this actually be? I see some similar ones when googling on ebay/etsy/closed auctions on other sites but don't know if the info on them is accurate. About 9" in diameter.

I don’t know anything about your cinnabar, but I would love to go shopping with you, you always find such nice, interesting things. :)

Yes the egg, did you find the artist yet? I had seen some possibilities.

    Nice lotus shaped plate, Aaron.
The Qianlong mark is not of the period, it is the same here as for so much porcelain. It does not have the balanced overall look of Qianlong pieces. But it is antique, and it does have some value.
Now comes the difficult part, sorry about that.
It is early handmade fake cinnabar, probably late 19th century. Plaster was applied to a brass base, molded, and covered with a layer of genuine cinnabar. You can see the plaster in several places in the detail below:

If it had been cinnabar on brass, the damaged part would show 100% cinnabar.
This plaster technique was used before the introduction of modern plastics, so this is an antique piece. Just not a true cinnabar carved piece.
Better for your health though, less chance of mercury poisoning.;)
