Picked this up at an estate sale here in the US that had quite a lot of old English pottery. It appears in such good condition! Any ideas when or where it may have been made? Old or reproduction?

Looks fine for an English one, but the shape hardly changed over two hundred years, so a pig to date - anything from 17th to 19th. Having said that, have a look here: http://cka.moon-demon.co.uk/KAR026/KAR026_Clay.htm . Yours looks closest to shape 5.

These are quite common, people dig them on the Thames foreshore all the time.

Thanks to you both for your responses and helpful links.

I'll be visiting London in July and am considering a mudlarking tour. I've seen Mud Men via youboob and would love to take a walk along the Thames foreshore at low tide! I know it's heavily restricted now, permits needed, etc.

The pipe was only $1 and was in such good condition that I decided to pick it up just for fun. :) But, as you've both noted, dating these things is tough. I also worried it may be a reproduction.

The angle of the bowl is a rough guide, early pipes were more angled like yours, over time the angle of the bowl moved toward a right angle.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

When my parents belonged to Keen's Chop House in NYC One Gazillion years ago, and we kids went with them, we were given little pipes about the size of yours that also said "Keens" on them.....darned if I can find it at the moment.....also looks about like yours......I'm talking early Fifties..........and if I read correctly what @afantiques just wrote above, then yours would definitely be older.....if memory serves me correctly mine is closer to a 'rightish' angle......good find for a buck!!!!
