I have a rare, so I think, copy of the common prayer book, dated to MDCCCLI. Only in one place did I find some information about the mention of this publication, but nothing concrete. The book is amazing, if the edges of the book are gilded correctly, you can see the inscription king

It is The Book of Common Prayer, 1851. Probably not that rare, but the cover and gilding are beautiful. Our specialists can tell you if that is rare on a book like this. They will be along later.

You're right, brainfog here, I'll change it.:) I put the date in as a help because some of our members can't read Roman numerals.

It is a beautiful binding, and I would agree that is where any value lies. People do buy books specifically because of the binding.

Thank you, I think so too. I can’t show it in the photo, but with the right light and bending of the leaves, you can see the word king. I recently read about this article and decided to check it, and found

The Book of Common Prayer is common enough, and Eyre and Spottiswoode were a large mainstream publisher. The nice binding is indeed what will attract attention: pity it's so rough. Velvet is uncommon - leather of various types would be more typical. It does, however, seem to have been a specific object - Abebooks has several on offer, dated from 1850-52 (I set those years to keep it narrow), with a similar shield on the front, mostly in leather cases. I speculate they were wielded by traveling churchmen.

The gilt decorations are called 'gauffered edges' - you can use that search term on eBay to find many examples. I do not see the word 'King' you speak of, but it may be a fore-edge painting, which would increase the interest level, depending on how elaborate it is.

You can’t see this in the photo, you need to bend the sheets with a fan and in the right light. I have this book for 7 years and only after reading an article about the features of that time, I checked and saw, it makes no sense to invent it, it's stupid
