What do I have here? Assumed it was for measuring lamp oil or something similar when I bought it but I have no idea if that’s right. Signed P over an S inside a shield. 8.5” tall

You’re awesome! It does have a thermometer in it but turns out it is for testing bourbon/whiskey which makes it way cooler!!!! Wouldn’t have found it without your tip. Thanks!

There’s a complete unit listed on the bay for $165. From that listing:

Description - An antique Bourbon Whiskey /alcohol hydrometer used by distillers to measure alcohol content in Alcohol products. The Hydrometer marked Griebel Instrument Co., Carbondale, Pa. The tall copper canister with a handle and a glass covered thermometer.
    Age - ca 1900 - 20
    Size - Copper canister 8 1/2 tall x 1 3/4" diameter , Hydrometer 9" long
