I am NOT a furniture expert but I believe this design is frequently referred to as a "captain's desk". Are there drawers on the sides? Pictures of the sides and back may help those who know more than me. Also..dimensions?

I think it may also be called a davenport in Britain.

Yes it is a Davenport but it looks like it has been made from multiple types of wood.
The drawers and inside the lid look unfinished or not stained or replaced.

How big is it, it looks quite small?
The brass gallery on the top is nice.

Davenports are designed to be small, to fit in the officers cabin on a ship.

    Here is one I have.

Yep, a handsome davenport ca. 1880, (apocryphally?) named after the 18th century English ship captain. Guessing its English, very nice walnut veneers and burl/burr.

Very odd about the unfinished inside top and drawers, as these pieces appear to be original.

    Hi, Luke, and welcome!

That's a nice looking piece! I would certainly find a place for it!

Was part of the inside painted at one time. A good cabinet maker could make missing parts and restore.
