Could this be native American?

    I agree with Komo, this technique (the spoke-like start, and wrapped stitches joining the coils) is not used by any Native American tribe, nor is the material the basket is made from (palm fiber.)

    It's most likely African, but definitely not Native American Indian, although because of the similar colors, it's often confused with Papago (Tohono O'odham) Indian baskets from southern Arizona.

    Mexican baskets, and some from the South Pacific, also are known for using these materials and stitching techniques.
