How deep is it. A library table is not very deep 20" maybe.
    If wider, then a desk.
Possibly English. 1920s-30s, but I'm guessing. Wait for Brad.

I vote library table since it has the lower shelf. Never felt they necessarily needed to be shallow. In practicality, these did serve as desks but not for any serious work. Non-descript wood stained to mimic dark walnut with mahogany veneer panels. Could be English but hard to tell. If the secondary wood in the drawer is oak, it likely is English. This is circa 1925 (April ..... LOL!).

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I always think of a library table as a table at which one could sit and study and spread all of the study materials out... I'm sure that this is influenced by my librarian background! :)

    Don't know where I was.
I think I was thinking of a sofa table which would have been narrow and long. Or do they call those library tables also.
    Now I have myself confused.
    Sorry.

A sofa table is much like a library table but is shallow. They are also sometimes called console tables. That must be what you were thinking.

As you can see by the links I posted above, there doesn't seem to be any real consensus to this.
