Featured Couple Questions About An Art Tile?

    First one would be is that what this actually is? Maybe an old Fireplace tile?
    It's mounted onto a solid piece of 9/16" thick gilded wood.
    It appears to have some age to it if the crazing is any indication.
    The "tile" measures 4"x 8".
    It is a raised 3d impasto style tile.

    It is also signed but I cannot make it out myself. The letters appear different when viewed at different angles. Name look familiar to anyone?

    Are the letters of the name raised? If so, is the white mark between the A & The M/H that looks like an apostrophe also raised?
