Hello all, picked this up today for less than a Starbucks coffee. :)

Thinking it is signed Locomo? With that I think I will never find the artist(hopefully someone here might have seen before). What are your opinions, Amateur or not? Personally I like it, the depth and use of palette. It is currently In a filthy Condition and appears to have been pinned in all four corners(causing the damage). It is about 22” X 18”. Help :)

made another painting purchase(behind this image). It was easily ID’d and should sell well

Certainly done by a trained artist but... I don't think that's a cowboy. And I don't think those are horses. Looks like a Latin American scene of someone who's just forded a river with pack donkeys. Name looks like "Socorro" to me but that's a first name, not a surname. Interested in what others think. Anything on the back?

The word in Spanish for muleteer is arriero.

Name looks like Socono, but I can't find an artist that matches.

My dad told me that the horses in the remote areas of Panama were very small by US & European standards. The shot below is a screen grab from 8mm film taken around 1959 of me and my dad riding horses of my grandad's native hunting buddies. I'm not saying the painting above doesn't show mules or donkeys (their ears are longish), but don't go by size alone.

    Very nice, mmarco.:)
I read Iverno, Portuguese for winter. Like winter, it is also a surname, so it is possible.
    Agree.
If the name is Portuguese, how about a Brazilian 'vacqueiro'?

Good morning and thank you for your comments,

Yes Debora, I saw them as donkeys as well. But the style hat lead me to an american cowboy. I have to admit though the painting certainly has a South American feel to it and whatever the signature is as well. Additionally, there is absolutely nothing on back but a few stains(reason I didn’t submit an image.)

Ah! Vacqueiro, a new word in my vocabulary and confirmation on the “Cowboy” hat. Thanks :)

I am going to continue searching the artist name but my hopes are low :( maybe Socarro or Socorro?

    thanks again all.

Passing thought, is it possible the year of 93 is a 43? The 3 is sloppy so I am not sure at this time.

Definitely true. I always wanted a paso fino and they’re smaller but IMO the proportions,
ears, carriage, etc are not those of a horse and IMO that painting was done by a very good artist who could well represent a proper horse.

    I'd think 1993 too. A modern sensibility.
