This was posted on the local CL a bit ago. Just wondering if anyone knew what it was (model, year), and if it is indeed a practice bomb/safe. bm.jpg

Looks like a Mark 80 series practice bomb from 1950's-'60's. No size given so that's all I can venture. If there are two lugs on other side, and maybe a circular fill port, that's more info. These were filled with wet sand before use so they'd have correct weight and thus, proper ballistics. Lots have been sold surplus since they became obsolete.

Thank you. I kinda liked it just for the "artwork", but at $250 I think i'll pass on it.

Yes cool artwork. If that's the 90" long version, shipping would be high, but undecorated ones, if I'm not mistaken, retail close. To $1000. Well, asking price anyway. If it was in the mid-Atlantic area, I'd buy it and drive to pick it up.

    Hi,
That test bomb reminds me of how stupid people can be. A month after the WTC horror a friend and i were hired to help clean out an apartment. The guy who hired us flew in from Calf to NYC to clean out his mothers apt where he grew up. Among the pieces was a huge test bomb similar to this one. It was bright blue he had bought on Canal street at a Army-Navy surplus store when he was a kid. He decided he wanted to send it to himself. He took it to the post office and the entire staff went into hysterics. The post mistress was looking at him like he was crazy. She would not mail it to him so he decided to take it on the plane with him. Again he was turned down. He ended up having it shipped by smaller private carrier. It was a three day fiasco.
