Small oil on board. 4" x 6". Artist is Marjory Lynch.
I couldn't find anything on her.
Her small sticker on the back reads

    Marjory lynch
    Internationally known
    Poet of the flowers

    Quite appealing to me.

With those colors and that frame, I'm going to guess 1980s.

Marjorie Maddox Lynch was a native of Newfoundland, who died on 25 Jan. 2003, at the age of 77, in Sacramento, California. Mother of four, and grandmother of six, she enjoyed painting and writing poetry.

Self identified as the "Internationally known Poet of the Flowers", this is the only poem of hers I could find:

    My Old Home Town

The sea breeze gently wipes away
    The teardrops from my face,
As I say my fond farewell,
    To this quiet place.
The souvenirs that I have found,
    Will comfort me a bit,
A rock, a nail, a piece of wood,
    A shawl my mother knit.
These flower seeds from the flowers,
That grew where our home once stood,
Makes me wish that I could stay,
    I only wish I could.
The old rusty horseshoe I found,
    Down by the well,
It must have come from Dowdow, Daisy or Nell.
I can hear the old piano,
    And a hundred dancing feet,
To the tune of Sailor's Horn Pipe,
At the returning of the fleet.
There's one more thing that I must pack,
    Into my old suitcase,
It's a painting of Bay Bulls Harbour,
    This oh, so beautiful place.

Given this example of her poetry, my critique is that she was a better painter than poet. Inasmuch as there is a complete dearth of information available about her artwork, my professional opinion is that your small painting's value is primarily in it's naïf charm.

The frame reads older to me,it could havebeen re-matted in the 80s. Lovely little thing,Id find room for it somewhere on my GROANING walls !

Lovely! If it were mine, I'd re-frame it in a much smaller frame. I don't think that frame does the painting justice at all.

The magenta inner passe-partout is interesting. Makes the colours pop.

You're very welcome! She was hard to find in any of the usual places, finally discovered her on a Canadian genealogy site!

Ask a young reporter for the Evening Telegram in mid 70's I interviewed Marjory Maddox Lynch, a proud Bay Bulls girl. She along with her sister met me in the restaurant of the old Woolco on Water Street, or was it Woolworths. We sat and talked for an hour or so and I listened to her intriguing story and then wrote an over length story, a copy of which I believe I still have. Sometime later, in the mail, I received a large cardboard tube containing three of her paintings, which hang in my home today. Two of flowers, and one of a small girl and a snowman. I later discovered a framed painting of the same artist at a yard sale, which I have also. She was an exuberant lady, very passionate about her work.

Wow! Thank you very much for that information. Even though this thread is almost three years old I still have mine and is displayed in my bedroom. I would love to read that article sometime. Thanks again and welcome @Glen Carter

Marjorie Lynch - greeting card artist for many years, beautiful artwork of flowers and critters...I think I just sent my last vintage card to someone not long ago.
