    Is this 3"-ish crystal ashtray anything special?

    Special? Other than it's crystal, I think it might be Italian. I bought one similar while in Venice on vacay. Mine was turquoise, but it was broken years ago. I don't know whether it was made in Murano, as the shops just stocked things that would sell to tourists and it did not have a Murano sticker on it.

    By 'special' I wanted to be sure it wasn't a famous maker, like Baccarat or something.
