    Hi everyone!!

It's been a long time since I posted here.

I have bought an French crystal box in a gilt bronze frame last week.
I have bought it at an online auction in Germany.

Now I saw it and immediately recognized it as French Empire/Restauration Period.
    (Ca 1820-1825.)

    It's a quite small box,

    It was described as:
Spätes 18. Jahrhundert. Dose aus farblosem, mit Kerb- und Waffelschliff geschliffenem Kristall mit vergoldeter Metall- (Silber?)

Now I often see auction houses don't really know the right country,
age/period, type of glass, etc. Simply because they can't investigate every item.

    Now my question is..
    Would I be wrong?

Could this box really be an earlier piece?
(Late 18th century, as the auction house mentioned)

Also I have no idea why it says "vergoldeter silber" (gilded silver).
I haven't had a piece like this before. When was it common to (fire) gilt silver?
    And how can you tell?

I know that most of these boxes (I'm 'specialized' in opaline glass mainly) have gilt bronze mounts. Not gilt silver, as far as I know.

By the way.. the pattern/cut of the glass is called 'bamboo'.
I guess the cut on the top can be called 'diamond cut'.

I haven't received the box yet.
Maybe I will post some more pictures of it when I have.

    Thanks for reading!!

the shop - really an outlet only, the rest is outside the city - is in walking distance of the Élysée. very pratique for Brigitte when she tells her beloved chouchou Manu to pick up the newest items between a phone call to that very old Irish in Washingon DC, some guy downunder whose name isn't known to anybody, and having a walk with the dog.
