Cufflinks from the '20's? Teens?

Discussion in 'Jewelry' started by Russell Leiner, Apr 20, 2021.

  1. These links were left to me by my grandfather. Hoping to get some history on them. Maybe age? Where from?

    They are stamped 18k

    Thanks

Hi Russell, welcome to the forum!
Please can you add some close up photos from all angles including the back?

And a photograph of the box if it carries a retailer's name.

Do the decorations on them move or are they solidly applied to the connecting bar... sometimes, you can date them by that feature .

Yes, one can. That's why additional photographs would be so helpful.

  7. Not entirely sure what you mean regarding the decorations moving. They seem to be almost like a cloisonne with engraving all on gold. And my mistake in my original post. They are marked 14k, not 18k.

Surrounding the 14k is what appears to be either an O or 0 and B.

Here are some more detailed pix. Hope this helps you, help me :) Thank you again.

  9. @Pattywithay thank you so much. That link, the story, the history, is fascinating. I never would have learned that on my own.

I've had these cufflinks for over 30 years and never wore them once. My plan was to wear them to my daughter's wedding. As fate would have it, my daughter had cufflinks specially made for me for that day. The links had pictures of she and I when she was just a little girl. How could I not wear them on her special day. So still to this day I have never worn them.

I'm excited to share the history of them with my daughter.

Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with me.

  11. @Pattywithay Something else just dawned on me.
Would you have any idea about age? Is there a way to determine if these links are a product of the father, or the daughter?

I would say 20’s but that’s just a guess without doing research. If you search for Otsby Barton enamel cuff links you’ll find similar examples.

They're monogramed. Who does the monogram belong to?

Can't find anything at all about the jeweler (assuming the case is original.) Does your family have an associated with Queens?

Case does look right. Here's another pair of Otsby Barton cuff links in an identical box.

  16. My grandparents settled in the Bronx when they arrived in the US. So Queens was just over the bridge.

  17. Those sure do look similar. And as you noted, the box is identical.

  18. Yes, they appear to be monogrammed. I'm horrible at reading monogram letters. I can't tell what letters are engraved, therefore I can't say who the monogram belongs to. Are you able to see the lettering clear enough? Honestly, I don't even know what orientation to hold the cufflinks to read the letters.
