Wondering how most people here sell their scrap silver. Over the years I've accumulated a bag of broken and damaged sterling items. Someone on a neighborhood email discussion board where I live recommended G&S Metals and said it is where all the "jewelers go". This is out of state -- I'm okay mailing items, but thought I'd see what others here do. Could also easily list on Ebay.

    Thanks.

Local pawn shops, jewelers etc generally buy silver. They pay under scrap of course since they have to make something on it too. I sell most of mine to a local pawn shop. It's the closest, and when you factor in time and expenses they're a decent deal. You need a professional license to go straight to a refinery. Those are usually business to business only.

Awhile back I sent some to Midwest Refineries and it was easy. No idea how they're doing these days though. Didn't need a license at that time and a quick look at the website didn't look you do now but I haven't contacted them in ages.

I think the formula for rough general purposes (as I recall) sterling is 92.5% silver so subtract 7.5% from the troy weight, then they pay 90% of that (check that though if you're thinking about it).

    1 normal ounce = 28.3 grams : 1 Troy Ounce = 31.1 grams
Precious metals are weighed in TROY.
This always threw me for a loop untill I memorized it. I won't mention why I knew an Ounce is 28 grams - :cigar:

If you can make it to Denver, take it to Dave’s on Broadway next to Rocky Mountain Coin, the absolute best buyer of scrap gold and silver in the state. Pays cash in the early part of the day, by check later if it’s been a busy day.
