Cut crystal decanter / jug - ideas on maker?

I picked up this decanter thinking it was possibly Heisey in one of the flat panel patterns. When I got it home I found the etched "12" on the stopper & finally located the same number on the decanter. There are no other marks.

I know that this type of mark usually indicates a European origin but I was hoping someone might recognize the maker. Also, would it be correct to call this a whiskey jug? I was also wondering if this could possibly be a ship's decanter because of the shape & the large flat bottom.

I have searched through Replacements & tried multiple Google searches with no luck. Any help with key words would be truly appreciated.

It is 6 3/4" to the top of the stopper, 5 7/8" to the lip & 5 1/8" across the bottom. The handle is applied.

Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!!

    Hi,
Looks like a cruet and US made with that 12 if European I would expect to see more of a front slant to the 1. They were numbered because in shipping they were packed separately and the shop owner had to match them up.

It would be an extremely large cruet, but I guess it is possible.

Hey, that's my grandfather's vinegar cruet. (On spinach, no less. Ugh!)

    Hi Peggy,

Hey, that's my grandfather's vinegar cruet.

So who made his cruet????? ;)

Hi Peggy, The cruets in my old church were that size.

I keep looking at this piece & thinking to myself I really can't believe something this large would be considered a cruet. I just checked & it holds 27 1/2 ounces when filled to the top of the neck. :jawdrop:

I just have to say that this would be a LOT of vinegar even for someone who really liked vinegar.:confused::confused:
