Cut glass (silver trim) box w/ lock.. initials: "J. A-G"

Curious what you can tell me, age (vintage? antique?) what this would have been used for, etc. I think the metal is sterling, but could be wrong. No marks other than the initials next to the locking mechanism when you open the box: "J. A-G".

No key, but currently unlocked. Measures approx 5 inches across, 4.5 inches high. Heavy glass, and the glass on the lower half seems to have a texture, a bit frosted.

Oh, I like this! If you search for cut-glass 'casket' you should find a bunch, would have been used on a vanity or dresser. Some had perfume bottles in them, not sure if yours would have had any.
I don't know what the initials stand for.

Any idea of age? Would I be correct calling it an "antique"?
