I have this mid century chalkware dancer lamp but I can’t tell if it’s from CAC, Reglor, or someone else ? I suspect that it is probably a Reglor, however I have spent hours searching for this particular lamp and cannot find another.
I know that since chalkware is fragile that a lot of these lamps just simply didn’t make it past a certain point but I thought I would have found another version of him with actively researching.
It has no number or anything on the bottom but is marked with patent pending.
The person I bought it from said they got it at an estate auction for their husband but he ended up not liking it so it sat in her shop for a long time and I inquired about him. He came home with me.
Other than that I know nothing about where he came from before.
I’m looking for more info about him and possibly this lamps specific name or even its partner ? I’ve been looking for a long time, reverse searching the image etc I just can’t seem to find another him. Any help would be extremely appreciated. $1300 ! I just found part of an MCM Lamp Set last week-this stuff's crazed hot.Lot's of stuff goes for cheap on Live Auctioneers (not all mind you).
Cool lamp, treat yr chalk ware gingerly w/ kid gloves.
Most of the chalk I'm used to seeing are the carny prizes. The thing is abt chalk is it's easily repairable (and it frequently needs it).Cept yr lamp looks perfect-congrats.
    Gd find Laura.

The liveauctioneers pair had a surf theme which would make them particularly desirable.

Have looked at dozens of similar lamps and can not find a match. Costume seems like Mayan, Aztec, or perhaps even Hawaiian. Those key words did not help. Wonder if this might be a prototype, though nothing about it other than scarcity suggests it is. Good luck in your search.

Perhaps they broke the mold after the first one came out. He/she seems curiously androgenous - perhaps too confusing for the time.

He might have had a mate.

Hello @Modestbat & welcome to the forum!!:happy:

It is interesting that if you look at the lamps in @laura9797's post the lamp that the OP posted is shown positioned like the girl. However, there is something definitely different about the chest area.:rolleyes::p :confused: :hilarious::hilarious:

Certainly not all but a fair amount of dancer lamps I have seen depict the masculine versions or counterparts in very feminine poses and sometimes attire and I think it’s one of the things I actually really love about dancer lamps. It’s not the norm to see, I think and that’s what attracted me to this piece when I saw him in a little plant shop a few years ago.

Thank you for your help! It very well could be and I will continue my search for information on him. I feel like maybe I should take him to someone who specializes in MC antiques and hopefully at some point I can find out at least where he came from.

We would very much appreciate it if you could come back with any updates you may find out. You just never know if someone out there has a mate to your lamp that might turn up at some future date.:happy:

Did you get the original shade when you bought the lamp? I do believe that helped with the sold price of the pair that Laura posted that the original shades were included.

It casts a strange exotic otherworldly spell-I recall this era well as a kid.The adults dreamed about traveling to Bali Hai or Shangrila in their little freshly planted asbestos shingled suburbs.
The only real travel had been done mostly by our fathers in DC-3's & B-24's and they definitely weren't going to Shangrila.

Mod-Can You take better pics of the back of the piece ? There were many 'Blue Dancer' figures in the 50's.Though I haven't been able to find one quite as flamboyant as this fellow yet.

Yeh I can get a few more pics of him when I get home later
I will for sure ! I am hoping that someone who has another version of him or his mate sees this for sure and maybe has more information.

Unfortunately he did not come with his original shade. He was bought by his previous owner without the shade at auction and only came with the piece that holds a shade on, it has a little bit of damage so I have it packed away but I can get it out and post pictures maybe it would be helpful in the long run.
