Any tips please on how to lighten oak antique French furniture (19C) that is very dark due to a build-up of many coats of black wax? Lots of nooks and crannies from which to clear the gunk! Thanks!

If it is just wax, mineral spirits should cut it without touching the finish. It may leave a hazy residue so you would want to clean with lemon oil or similar product and apply a new coat of paste wax afterward. If it is old darkened varnish, you would need to strip it with a stronger solvent.

Thank you. Will try. I’ve never come across lemon oil before!
