Presuming it’s an ice box?. Maybe to fit in a picnic basket? Although it’s quite heavy. Shaped Perspex/ Lucite handle and a tin insert that looks professionally soldered and fits like a glove.
    Any ideas on date?
If not for ice then any other suggestions please. :)
    Thankyou

Getting a 1940s-50s vibe. Never seen another one. Cool!

Seems a bit small and deep for an ice bucket, and the steel liner uncommon too - perhaps an MCM biscuit barrel?

Yeah, doesn't "look" right for an ice bucket - though stranger things have happened when someone wants to go avant garde, or so-called cutting edge.
It is a nice piece in and of itself, but I have no suggestions as to what it actually is.

It can be whatever the buyer would like it to be!
Surely can’t lose on my 50p investment!

Just an idea - did the UK or Europe ever use 'milk boxes' on the porch for home deliveries years ago? The tin insert reminds me of the lining on our old milk box, but ours were big, square affairs that would hold a gallon of milk & a container of cottage cheese at the same time (and a frog/toad or two for safe keeping overnight until the milkman woke my dad at 4am to complain ;)). Yours look big enough for a quart/liter of milk.

I agree, but there was also a bit of insulation in them as well - asbestos if you REALLY wish to know...................I think this would be very impractical as a milk box, but as I said..

And no, it can be ANYTHING for 50p;)

Definitely no asbestos in this one. Just wood and tin fortunately!.

We used to have long necked glass milk bottles and they were replaced by short neck ones maybe in the 70s?. A short neck one would fit in this but this predates those bottles.
