I'm hoping to narrow down the date range of an east coast USA photo by the fashions the women are wearing. I've seen this style of women's clothing from around the turn of the century. It didn't seem to last very long, which is fortunate, because it's a pretty awful looking style - one of those "what were they thinking" fashions. Also, there's a name for that style of dress, but I can't remember it.

Do you see how the women's blouses puff out at the waist? That style was called "Pouter Pigeon" and dates your photograph to 1900-1910. Edwardian.

@Debora - yes, that's the name. And having raised pigeons in the past, I think it's a very apt name. I think the photo was taken between around 1905. I was hoping the clothing would push that earlier, but it sounds like it's probably close.

    Hi Aquitaine,
Bras were not invented for at least 19 more years. Some woman sewed two handkerchiefs together to make the first ones. I think it was in Bayonne NJ.

With the help of some folks on a railroad forum, I finally figured out the photo at the beginning of this thread. I had thought it was a train station. It turns out the photo was taken aboard the rail carferry "Michigan Central" on the Detroit River. With that info, I was able to place it in a sequence of photos taken on a 1906 trip from Bethlehem, PA, up the Hudson River, and from northern New York, on across to a ranch on the Montana/Wyoming border. I thought I'd never get that photo figured out. There may be a lot of crap on the internet, but there's also some wonderful, helpful people too. This antiques forum great in that respect. Here's the full photo...
