Dating Andirons

    A buddy of mine heard that my wife wanted a bootscraper so he called and told me he had a couple and wanted to bring them by. He showed up with this pair of andirons and after I explained what they were he said "Well you can scrape your boots on them can't ya? You want them or not?" Anyway, my question is how do you date andirons like this without a casting date on them. I found the same pair dated 19th century but I don't think they'e that old.
