When the gold was recovered from the Edinburgh, the Russians decided to give medals to the survivors of the sinking. Is it possible for anyone to find an image of the medal?

 

I got curious about this & was directed to this lovely pdf of an auction catalogue, which is as good as looking through a jewellery catalogue, maybe better, because of the stories that come with some of them.

Is it possible that the award was something like lot #741, Order of St. Anna? One shown has ribbon for non-Russian recipients & Wiki says the award is still being given. Maybe there is no medal made specifically in commemoration?

 

Thanks. You may wonder why I ask. My nephews uncle received one. He was one of the survivors and he went to a ceremony and the Russian attache presented it to him. He never married or had children, so when he died it was given to my nephew. He was in the navy at the time and it was thought he was the best recipient. After he left the navy and he was working, his flat was burgled when he was at work. One of the items stolen was the medal. They took a pillowcase off the bed to fill with their haul. I have often wondered what the medal looked like.
