Deco? Etched Amethyst Glass Kingfisher? Vase/Wastebasket/

Got this about 15 years ago in Walker, California. The shop owner (age roughly 50 at the time) said it belonged to her mother (both local natives), an' that they had not been able to find out anything about it. I can now confirm that there is apparently nothing out there to be found...by me, anyway. Thus this fervent plea for any an' all comments, an' Thank You in advance for them!
it's ~13 3/8" high, ~5 3/4" foot diameter, ~8 3/8" rim diameter; it weighs ~83 ounces. The etching (almost certainly acid, rather than bead or sand blasted) is quite deep an' uniform; the top band is not connected to the design, but the bottom band is, in 2 places.
The wear on the base seems extreme, but the shop (on US 395) was neat & tidy except for the gritty dust throughout; I suspect that between the wind an' constant traffic, the desert landscape made possible the accelerated wear seen on it. It is not UV reactive; unless you're looking at the outer surface, it appears absolutely black, but held up to the sun, it is a darkly transparent deep purple. The inner surface is silky-smooth, almost oily feeling.
I paid dearly to have it, an' have had no moment of regret since. I believe it has good age, an' was costly for its time. There is, of course, nary a mark of studio or maker, nor any other telling indicator.
It isn't for sale, as my daughter has expressed uncommon interest in its possession. I'll be grateful for your help; thanks for lookin'!

 

I seem to remember stuff like this in the 1980s. Possibly Chinese.Im often wrong though.
